Employment Discrimination
It is illegal for an employer to fail to hire, fail to promote, terminate, or otherwise take any adverse employment action against an employee based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, alienage or citizenship status, disability, marital status, or partnership status. This can be the basis for legal action. Mr. Pepper has litigated numerous cases in these matters.
police brutality
Police and other law enforcement have an obligation to use force only when necessary to safeguard the safety of themselves or others. As a former Assistant Attorney General and Associate Counsel to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Mr. Pepper has a wealth of experience in these cases.
disability discrimination
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects disabled individuals from discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and public services. As a former Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel to the State Office of Mental Health, Joshua Pepper has been at the forefront of protecting the rights of individuals with certain disabilities.
Wrongful arrest/wrongful conviction
Arrest requires probable cause. Conviction requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt. If you have been wrongly arrested or convicted, you may be entitled to relief.
sexual harassment
Sexual harassment can take many forms. Sometimes the harassment is subtle. It can be the implied demand for sexual favors. It can be repeated hostility on the basis of race, sex, or otherwise. No matter what form the harassment takes, it is actionable. Mr. Pepper has been litigating these cases for more than a dozen years.
election law/voting rights
As an Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Pepper represented the State Board of Elections in numerous ballot access, voting rights, and other election cases. Now he represents individuals who seek enforcement of their individual ballot or voting rights.
